Package theft suspect freed over state’s objection
Despite repeated bond violations and objections from prosecutors, an Excelsior Springs woman at the center of a Clay County porch theft investigation has been released without bail.Kayley M. Worthington, 24, is facing two felonies, including stealing $750 or more and possession of a controlled substance.Seventh Judicial Circuit Court JudgeShane T. Alexander recently ordered Worthington to be released without monetary bond.The Clay County Prosecutor’s Office objected to the release, citing Worthington’s history of bond violations and noncompliance. However, Alexander granted the release with all previously imposed non-monetary bond conditions still in place.Those conditions, first set in early April, include electronic monitoring and house arrest, mandatory weekly meetings with a bond supervision officer and submission to random drug testing at least twice per week.
