Paneling project expected to reduce noise at school
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Excelsior Springs High School commons will soon be quieter. ‘
The Board of Education agreed to install wood panels on the commons ceiling. Incite Design Studio LLC of Kansas City is the architect for the $62,000 project, with Newkirk Novack Construction Partners of Lenexa, Kansas, as the contractor.
The commons underwent refurbishing during the summer, but, “there was just a lot of noise that echoed as a result,” prompting the installation of panels, Deputy Superintendent Jared Tomlinson said Nov. 20 by phone.
The district rejected the original plan for cloth-covered baffles.
“We didn’t really like that idea because they’d be hard to keep clean,” Tomlinson said.
They also did not look appealing.
“We had a sound engineer come in and actually measure what the sound reverberations would be … (versus) what they currently were,” he said. “And then, they came up with a strategy plan that would help soften the noise, so that … (we) wouldn’t get some of the…
