The Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation Department council recently presented a ratified new policy for naming parks that was approved by council members. This policy ensures that park names reflect the community’s values and heritage and the environmental features that make them unique. Notably, individual or family names will not be considered for park names under this policy. The policy states: • Initiation of Naming or Renaming Process: The Parks & Recreation Department (PR) may initiate the naming or renaming process. Community members may also submit a petition to PR with at least 100 signatures from residents. • Submission Guidelines: Proposals must be submitted in writing to P&R.
