Opportunities for local youth to connect, participate and build a sense of belonging are coming this school year through expanded activities aimed at reaching more teens.

Excelsior Springs Substance Abuse Free Environments (SAFE) and the Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation Community Center (ESPRCC) are continuing a partnership that combines SAFE’s prevention efforts with the community center’s existing programs, staff and space to provide positive activities and connections for youth and families.

recently spoke about the partnership during a SAFE meeting, explaining the community center can play a role in prevention by providing youth opportunities to stay active, spend time with their peersand build relationships with positive adults.

Davis noted many middle and high school students already find that connection through sports, band and other extracurricular activities, but those opportunities are not available to every student.
