Area man sentenced to child abandonment

July 10, 2018 – An Orrick man will spend time in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of abandonment of a child in the first degree.

3-year-old Roger Wayne Garrison, left, and 20-month-old Ashton Michael Garrison, right, died in a fire Dec. 10, 2013 at their home in Orrick.

Judge Larry Harmon sentenced Randy Garrison of Orrick to 12 years for both counts to be served concurrently in a hearing held Friday, June 29. Prosecutors originally charged Garrison with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of arson in the first degree. After a deadlocked jury ended Garrison first trial in March, prosecutors reached a plea deal with Garrison for those charges to be dropped in exchange for a guilty plea.

Harmon remanded Garrison into the custody of the Missouri Department of Corrections.
