Excelsior woman injured in accident: Missouri State Highway Patrol Report

May 11, 2018 – Missouri State Highway Patrol reported one motor vehicle crash involving an Excelsior Springs resident on Wednesday, May 9.

According to the traffic crash report, a three-vehicle crash occurred at 6:41 a.m. in Clay County on I-35 at the 5.6 mile marker.

A 1996 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Kyle W. Vanzant, 23, of Kearney, was stopped in traffic when a vehicle driven by Ashley A. Gates, 30, skidded and struck the Vanzant vehicle. The Gates vehicle, a 2017 Dodge Journey, was then struck in the rear by a third vehicle, a 2005 Honda, driven by Lynda K. Barnes, of Excelsior Springs.

The Gates and Barnes vehicles were towed from the scene and sustained moderate damage. The Vanzant vehicle sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene.

In addition to Gates and Barnes, two passengers in the Gates vehicle, ages 6 and 7, received minor injuries and were self-transported to local hospitals for treatment.

All parties were wearing safety devices.
