Crescent Lake Christian Center started the New Freedom Recovery Program to help those in the community who succumb to addiction. Implemented by Steve Wayman, the program has been in existence for three and a half years. He explained the program keeps the atmosphere small and comfortable enough for people to share past experiences. Five people assist Wayman with the program by conducting recovery meetings and splitting up large groups to create a more personal setting. “We don’t want people clamming up and individuals to feel overwhelmed,” Wayman said. Although COVID-19 slowed down the program, Wayman continued to do online meetings and noted it didn’t work as well, but they kept trying to help as many people as possible. With meetings every Thursday at Crescent Lake Christian Center at 7 p.m., Wayman has helped people with their “hurts, habits and hang-ups” and has over 35 years of experience helping those with addiction and mental health issues. “Fentanyl is killing people now…
