EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Excelsior Springs Community Center’s Second Annual Pumpkin Plunge is set for Oct. 24.

This event is open to everyone ages 3-12.

This year, because of a need to socially distance, time slots will be available in 30-minute increments for guests to sign up to plunge for a pumpkin in the pool.

The event is sponsored by Westlake ACE Hardware of Excelsior Springs, the Gregg Williams Foundation, Tray Harkins with Flat Branch Home Loans and TW Sportswear.

Aquatics Manager Cassie Kinnard and Aquatics Program Manager Kari King initiated the Pumpkin Plunge last year “as a fun way to give kids the opportunity to combine the fun of swimming with the excitement of the Halloween time of year,” support information states.

Children will get to swim in the pool and pick their favorite pumpkin from the many floating pumpkins.

“Last year, we were able to provide a place for the kids to decorate their pumpkins to take home for the holiday,” support information states. “However, this year, with distancing restrictions, the kids will take their pumpkins home and we will provide fun, virtual decorating ideas to do at home through our Facebook page.”

Anyone interested in signing up for a time slot between 10 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. should call the community center front desk at 816-656-2500.
