Victims of fraud are affected in various depending on the type of deception, which can include but isn’t limited to medical, pharmaceutical, phone calls, credit cards, online relationships and door-to-door sales. Clay County Prosecuting Attorney Zachary Thompson wants to ensure everyone knows the dangers of fraud and ways to avoid it. He is spreading the word through his initiative, Citizen Education Against Scams and Exploitation (CEASE). Thompson recently shared information with Excelsior Springs Rotary Club regarding fraud and the effects many people experience when engaging with scammers. “CEASE is a proactive tool to prevent people from becoming crime victims in the first place,” Thompson said. He hopes by offering the CEASE education program people can start protecting themselves against scammers and their fraudulent acts. “Senior fraud is booming for scammers,” he said. “There are 2.9 million reports of fraud made to the Federal Trade Commission every year.” Estimates…
