Summer is here, and that means children are spending time at home. Keeping children safe from hazardous household waste this summer is possible. Even if individuals use chemicals as directed, some household products can cause problems for the community and the environment, according to recylcespot.org. Some issues include health hazards, danger to children and pets, fire hazards, water pollution, air pollution and hazards to wildlife and the ecosystem. Excelsior Springs is a member of the Regional Household Hazardous Waste Program, coordinated by the mid-America Regional Council’s Solid Waste Management District and has resources for the community to dispose of hazardous chemicals. Individuals that live in a participating community such as Excelsior Springs have access to recycling hazardous waste and can attend mobile collections held throughout the year.
