EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The school district might receive more state funds.

Gov. Mike Parson released money withheld from state budget funding when fiscal 2021 began, Superintendent Dan Hoehn told district leaders during the Board of Education’s March meeting. With the release, there is “an additional $123 million” in the budget for state education for grades K-12, Hoehn said.

“Just a great thing,” he said. “Hopefully, we have time there to get our money this spring that … was appropriated, planned for. As you know, we were still in great shape, but still, it’ll be muchneeded and much-appreciated.”

In other state financial news, Hoehn announced an increase of slightly more than $100 million in state revenue collected, compared to revenue collected as of March 2020. The “financial experts” expect that revenue collection, along with the distribution of federal stimulus payments to families “and other things,” will “trend well” the rest of this year for Missouri, he said.

“And, of course, if interest rates come up, gas, diesel, all those things, could have an effect on collections, tourism,” Hoehn said. “But everybody’s real confident right now in the budget, and that’s good for K-12 education.”
