Residents to weigh in on guest tax proposal
Excelsior Springs residents will have an opportunity today to weigh in on a proposed tourism-related guest tax before city council members consider placing the measure on the August ballot. The special meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. today, May 22, at the Hall of Waters, where council members will consider an ordinance calling for an election on the proposed 5% transient guest tax. According to city information provided ahead of the meeting, the tax would apply to overnight lodging accommodations, including hotels, motels, bed-and-breakfast establishments and short-term rentals such as Airbnb and Vacation Rentals by Owner (VRBO) properties.
