Restoration progress on the Hall of Waters

PRESENT Excelsior Springs received a matching grant in 2020 for $500,000, with the city providing an additional $500,000 to repair the Hall of Waters. Originally, it was going to do things like fix the rush jacking on the two front doors, fix the tower, clean all of the rock and redo tuckpointing, said Melinda Mehaffy, economic development director for the city. “(It was going to be) amazing work the general public was going to see. But as they (contractors) started looking at the project, they found structural issues, so now the entire grant is being used to address the structural issues,” Mehaffy said. During a tour of the Hall of Waters, Mehaffy, Public Works Director Chad Birdsong, and Pullman Contractor Mike Richards explained the downfalls of the building and why to the public’s naked eye, it doesn’t look like any work is being done to the building.
