Richmond driver sustains injuries in fiery collision

October 12, 2018—A fiery collision involving two semitractor-trailers sends their respective drivers to hospital with injuries.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Tpr. G. E. Gundy investigated the collision which occurred at 10:50 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 in Cooper County on eastbound Interstate 70, at mile marker 111. In the Crash Report Details, Gundy said Michael S. McCoy of Richmond, while driving a 2016 Freightliner, struck the rear of a second Freightliner, who had stopped behind a vehicle blocking the driving lane. Both vehicles overturned and caught fire after impact.

McCoy sustained minor injuries. The second Freightliner driver, Jesse L. Leach of Springfield, Missouri, sustained moderate injuries. Officials transported both drivers to University Hospital for treatment.

Cpl. G. L. West, Tpr. B. L. Harris, Tpr. M. J. Owens and Cpl. L. R. Dancy assisted Gundy in the collision investigation.
