Richmond man pleads not guilty to felony stolen vehicle charge

A Richmond man who was arrested for his alleged involvement in the theft of a vehicle recently entered his plea in Clay County Court. Jerry D. Nail, 37, pled not guilty to the felony charge of first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle before 7th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Shane T. Alexander. The court approved a motion from Clay County Assistant Prosecutor Madilyn R. Anderson and Special Public Defender Nicholas Bates, who agreed Nail should be released on his own recognizance while awaiting his next court date. Nail will appear next at 9 a.m. on May 2 for a docket call. On Dec. 29, 2022, an Excelsior Springs Police officer was patrolling near a residence at the intersection of Fredericksburg and Orrick roads when he observed a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado parked on the roadway. A computer check revealed the vehicle was stolen out of Lexington.
