SAFE explores impaired driving prevention trends

Impaired driving prevention efforts are evolving alongside changing substance use trends, with educators and advocates increasingly focusing on cannabis use, prescription medications and underage drinking, as well as alcohol-related crashes.Those topics were discussed during a recent Excelsior Springs Substance Abuse Free Environments (SAFE) meeting, where Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Youth Program Specialist Anabelle Daugherty presented information about impaired driving trends, prevention education efforts and victim support services offered through the organization.According to statistics, alcohol related crashes continue to account for a significant portion of traffic fa- talities, both in Missouri and nationwide.
