School district turns to Newkirk Novak again

Newkirk Novak Construction Partners will continue doing business with the Excelsior Springs School District. During its monthly meeting on Oct. 10 at the Support Services Center, the Board of Education approved the Lenexa, Kan.-based company as the district’s construction manager at-risk. The International Risk Management Institute (IRMI) defines a construction manager at-risk on its website as the party that handles “early coordination during the design phase” of a project. Other duties include “the selection, scheduling and sequencing of trade subcontractors,” the IRMI states. “The term ‘at-risk’ conveys that the CM under this method bears the risks of the general contractor, such as price escalation, delay, etc. that are not present in an agency CM situation,” the institute states. Newkirk Novak’s previous work with the district has included overseeing renovations to Elkhorn Elementary in Ray County and building Cornerstone Elementary, which opened in 2021…
