Scout completes pet pantry project

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS –Sophia Stephenson, 16, Excelsior Springs, has finished her pet pantry to complete a Girl Scout Gold Award. The pet pantry is at Century Bark and contains free pet supplies for community members. “I love animals and free libraries. I combined them to help the animals,” Stephenson said. Stephenson joined Girl Scout Troop 737 in kindergarten as a Daisy to learn new things and make new friends, she said. Now, she is a senior in Girl Scouts, meaning she is eligible to complete the Gold Award. A Girl Scout Gold Award goes to girls who identify a community problem, create a plan to fix the problem and follow through with a project that puts the plan into action. Stephenson worked on the idea and related paperwork over the winter and started the project in February.
