Senior Center offering lunch, activities

The Excelsior Springs Senior Center lunch program for senior citizens — one of the largest in the area — is now back in full swing. Area seniors ages 60 and older are served meals and can take part in the activities offered as well. Jeff Barge, senior center director, said the lunch program “is booming” now that Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted and people can feel safe sharing a meal together. “The Excelsior Springs Senior Center serves on average 57 meals a day and is the fourth-largest senior lunch program in the Kansas City metropolitan area,” said Barge. About 60% of those utilizing the senior center are Excelsior Springs residents, with the rest coming from other communities, he said. He said on the occasion there are not enough tables for everyone, the patio is opened to accommodate more guests. “On rare occasion, the senior center has had to quit taking lunch reservations because there isn’t enough space available,” said Barge.
