The Silver Senior Prom Committee has announced they will host a spring dance for citizens 55 and older in partnership with the Excelsior Springs High School’s Student Council scheduled for the spring of 2024. Laura Mize, neighborhood specialist, explained that part of her job is being a representative within the community for all ages on behalf of the city. Since beginning her journey as a representative, she has been a part of the Aging Well Task Force, which meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 2:30 p.m. at the community center. Mize noted the idea for the Silver Senior Prom stemmed from the Aging Well Task monthly meetings. The meetings are to discuss issues affecting the older population in the community, including professionals who work with seniors as well as those living in senior communities such as those residing in senior living apartments. “They all come to the task force to discuss things that are happening and issues about social wellness,” Mize said.
