Software OK’d for monitoring downtown visits
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Downtown Excelsior Partnership, or DEP, is getting Placer.ai software to monitor downtown area visitor traffic.
Per City Council approval April 18 at the Hall of Waters, the DEP received a $7,000 matching grant to buy the software. The city provided the grant through federal American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 funding, city documents state.
The computer program “uses cell phone data to deliver data to decision makers to uncover local consumer behaviors to attract best-fit business and enhance local business performance,” City Manager Molly McGovern stated in an April 12 memo to city leaders. “It is the world’s best foot traffic analytic program,” DEP Executive Director Lyndsey Baxter told city leaders shortly before the vote. “It will allow us to do a multitude of things, such as market analysis, leakage reports, void analysis, so we’re able to target (the) best retailers to the area.
