Some Good Samaritan services not so obvious
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Good Samaritan Center, 108 S. Thompson Ave., provides a service many people might not know about, Executive Director Jennifer Chappel said while helping to perform that service last week.
Chappel loaded food into a truck. Helping people by providing them with food is something the center does regularly, but what is less known is that the center provides food for life’s milestone events, too, Chappel said.
In the case last week, the center delivered food to a grieving family.
“Somebody needs some extra help for a family funeral,” she said.
Funerals are among several events the center will assist with food.
“We have funerals, weddings, graduations, and so sometimes, that’s how we help out our clients,” Chappel said while continuing to load the truck with help from daughter Hope Chappel.
Another lesser-known service is the use of a meeting hall in the center basement. The hall is available for free to client or for a donation from the general public.
