JEFFERSON CITY – Maybe 1% of proposed bills will pass during the regular session this year, Sen. Denny Hoskins estimated. Rep. Peggy McGaugh concurs. “The second session of the 100th General Assembly is certainly one that will not be soon forgotten and will undoubtedly be in the history books as the smallest number of bills truly agreed to and finally passed by (the) legislative body, if we continue on the path that the coronavirus has forced us to take,” she said. Due to a short regular session, a “special session” could offer a second look at some bills lawmakers did not have time to pass, Hoskins said, but when, or if, bills might get that second look is unclear. McGaugh said the virus made a casualty of one of her bills, which had seemed likely. “My financial statement bill had its place on the informal calendar for floor debate the last days of session before spring break, but (I) doubt it is thought of as priority at this time,” McGaugh said.
