Switch in online math service adds up for grades 6-8

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The school district has changed its online math service for grades 6-8. Starting next school year, math teachers will incorporate an online service provided by Desmos Inc. into instruction methods. The Board of Education approved an agreement April 12 with Desmos through the 2023- 2024 school year. Demos’ offerings include “online access to digital and paper lessons, practices, assessments, quizzes, teacher dashboards and family resources,” Assistant Superintendent Aerin O’Dell stated in an April 5 memo to district leaders. Although the curriculum is online, teachers can print materials and the district controls the curriculum, Excelsior Springs Middle School Principal Ben Rubey told district leaders. “So if the teachers want to modify it, (they can),” Rubey said.
