Tower agreement between city, T-Mobile back in place retroactively following lapse
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The city’s 25-year relationship with T-Mobile will continue following a brief hiccup.
On Sept. 20, the City Council approved a resolution to restore the agreement for T-Mobile to rent communication tower space from the city. As Public Works Director Chad Birdsong stated in a Sept. 15 memo to city leaders, the initial agreement between T-Mobile “or their predecessors” took effect in September 1996, but the fourth amendment lapsed at the end of 2020.
Per the resolution, the rental contract “is hereby reinstated, as amended.” Retroactive to Aug. 1, the agreement runs through 2041, broken into four five-year periods. The resolution states the contract may expire earlier, with T-Mobile obligated to provide notification 30 days before a term is set to end.
Under the agreement, T-Mobile may pay monthly or quarterly rental fees, with rate increases set to take effect when each term begins. For the current term, T-Mobile pays $1,...
