‘Tremendous progress’ made on new school
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Brick masons have made “a tremendous amount of progress” in recent weeks on the Cornerstone Elementary School construction project, Superintendent Dan Hoehn reported during the Board of Education’s Dec. 14 meeting on Zoom.
Hoehn’s observation about the stonework comes roughly six months after construction began. As he reminded the board, the area “was a beanfield June 2.”
“Going to be (a) super-nice place for the kids,” he said.
The district is documenting construction on Facebook and through YouTube videos. Since a video was posted in July showing the site preparation progress, the concrete foundation has been poured, the steel and initial walling have been erected, and work on the exterior is well-underway. Hoehn told the board, curbing has been poured around the facility, “which then affords sidewalks to be put in.”
Overall, the project is “going well,” Hoehn said.
“It’s full throttle ahead for Cornerstone,” he said.
