Trial date set for felony assault, weapons charges

A jury trial date has been set for an Excelsior Springs resident facing felony charges of first-degree assault or attempt and armed criminal action Ronald D. Lana Jr., 45, appeared with public defender Kevin Garrison before Seventh Judicial Circuit Judge Shane T. Alexander on Sept. 28, for a hearing to set a trial date. Lana was not in the custody of Clay County Detention Center, as a bond of $50,000, 10% cash or surety, was posted April 12, by Bratten Bail Bonds. “Mr. Lana maintains he is not guilty and we can’t wait to show that in court,” Garrison previously told The Standard. Judge Alexander ordered Lana to appear April 1, 2024, for trial. Garrison and Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Madilyn R. Anderson agreed the date would work for both the state and the public defender’s office.
