Excelsior Springs, in partnership with the Mid-America Regional Council, now offers information for remodeling homes using universal design. Excelsior Springs Neighborhood Specialist Laura Mize explained homes don’t support an individual’s daily activities as they age over time. Universal design is a concept to help homeowners make personal spaces accessible for anyone requiring different needs. “Universal design differs from the Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility home improvements because universal design can be utilized by anyone needing assistance,” Mize said.
