Alexander’s trial date set for child sex abuse charges

The fate of an Excelsior Springs woman facing numerous felony charges will be determined by a jury of her peers, as a 2024 trial date has been set.

Desiree A. Alexander, 36, appeared in person while on bond with her Public Defender Rebecca M. Abelm in front of Eighth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Kevin L. Walden on Sept. 6.

Alexander faces nine felony charges and one misdemeanor charge, including three counts of first-degree rape or attempted rape; two counts of abuse or neglect of a child; first-degree sodomy or attempted sodomy; incest; first-degree sexual abuse; first-degree attempted sexual abuse and sexual misconduct.

“My client is on an anklet (ankle monitor), ready for trial,” stated Abelm.

After making sure there was no need for a Chapter 491 hearing, Judge Walden set a pre-trial date of May 1, 2024, followed by a jury trial at 9 a.m. July 15, 2024.

According to the probable cause statement written by Ray County Sheriff’s Department’s Detective Corporal Andrea McElroy, “On May 10, 2022, Deputy Glen Santy received a call from Dana Fortner reporting that her niece and nephew had been living with her for the past day and telling her about drug use, child abuse and child molestation happening inside of their home.”

The report states Alexander allegedly entered the victim's room, exposing him to her nudity and forcing the use of adult toys.

The probable cause statement includes more details, but they are extremely graphic and will not be disclosed by The Standard.

The Excelsior Springs Standard will continue ongoing coverage of this case.
