U.S. VIRUS DEATHS TOP 200,000

LIBERTY – The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore reported the nation’s death toll from COVID-19 this week topped 200,000, including more than four dozen deaths in the Northland. The numbers showed 6,897,661 cases and 200,818 deaths nationally; 1,743 cases and 40 deaths in Clay County; 158 cases and no deaths in Ray; and 643 cases and 10 deaths in Platte County. Clay, Ray and Platte comprise the three-county Northland. The Kansas City Region COVID-19 Data Hub, provided by the Mid-America Regional Council, shows the metro area has endured 40,963 cases and 561 deaths; averaged 315 cases daily over the past week, for a total of 2,207; and averaged two deaths daily, for a total of 16. Clay County Health Department numbers posted Monday show cases and deaths for the Kansas City portion of the county combined with the rest of the county.
