Wilderness Camp offers summer fun for all ages

Aside from spending time outdoors, summer camps allow children to connect with their peers and engage in recreational activities. “All are welcome at Wilderness Camp, and it is truly a place run by those who see value in it,” Director of Camp Ministries Bo Tucker said. Wilderness Camp, located near Lawson, Mo., was created in 1964 by the Missouri Conference of the United Methodist Church and had been designed as a camping retreat center previously dedicated to ministry in the northwestern part of Missouri. The camp, which offers summer camps for all ages, is now a 501c3 nonprofit organization, not owned by the United Methodist Church. Donations, fundraising and camp fees for the nonprofit keep the camp up and running. “It pays the bills for the camp,” said Tucker, “Providing for the camp amenities, lodging and upkeep.” Amenities used for summer camp programs include a 70,000-gallon saltwater pool and a lake with an enclosed sand beach swimming area with room for fishing and…
