Dehn Demolition razed the Wyman power plant early this week and cleanup is underway. On June 6, the City Council approved Dehn’s $24,400 bid to level the plant, located in the 100 block of Dunbar sitting southwest of the Wyman School. “The city elected to demolish the power plant because, with the loss of the roof, we have lost key structural support for the building,” said Melinda Mehaffy, economic development director. “As a safety measure for those around the neighborhood, we are taking these measures.” Wyman itself was not part of the demolition. Mehaffy shared that the city continues to work with parties interested in the redevelopment of Wyman. “We look forward to the day when we can see a re development project for this important community asset,” Mehaffy said. In 2021, a grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) was received and a Phase 1 environmental study was completed on both the power plant and the school.
