Dillman gets all-star nod, plays in MLB ballpark
On Tuesday, Lucas Dillman fulfilled a dream, one that many young baseball players have: He played in a Major League Baseball stadium.
Dillman, who graduated this spring from Excelsior Springs High School, achieved his dream by playing in the Ban Johnson League All-Star Game at Kauffman Stadium. Batting fifth for the National Division team, he was the designated hitter, going 0-for-2. His performance at the plate, however, didn’t put a damper on his evening.
“It was an amazing experience to be on the field, knowing that I have watched major leaguers there all of my life,” Dillman said.
Dillman and his National Division teammates fell 2-1 to the American Division. The American Division scored a run in the seventh and another in the top of the ninth. The National Division scored its lone run in the bottom of the ninth.
