ES boys golfers take second
Excelsior Springs fell slightly short of a varsity boys golf tournament title last week, in part, because of its short game, Tigers coach David Stalder suggested.
Led by senior Jacob Schmidt, who shot a 74 (+4) for his 18-hole, par-70 round, Excelsior Springs placed second March 20 at Hodge Park Golf Course in the Winnetonka Tournament with a combined score of 242 – three strokes behind tournament champion Kearney.
“Any time you have long putts, you put yourself in a tough situation and we missed a few putts we should have made,” Stalder said.
In individual results, Schmidt finished second overall and was one of two Excelsior Springs golfers to place in the top five. Landon Biermann, a senior, finished fifth by shooting an 81 (+11).
In other Excelsior Springs results, senior Elijah Ishmael shot a 93 (+23), junior Tayvion Kennedy shot a 94 (+24) and senior Zeb McBee finished with a 105 (+35).
