Proclamations honor veterans, celebrate good neighbors

Service, sacrifice and community connections are being recognized through two recent proclamations in Excelsior Springs.

Mayor Sonya Morgan recently proclaimed Sept. 9-14 as Vietnam Veterans Memorial Week and Sept. 28-Oct. 4 as Good Neighbor Week in Excelsior Springs.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Week proclamation recognizes the service and sacrifices of those who served during the Vietnam War, including more than 58,000 Americans who were killed and others who returned home with physical and psychological wounds.

The observance coincides with the arrival of The Wall That Heals, a traveling three-fifths-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., which gives the community an opportunity to honor those who did not return from the war.
