Clay County weighs options for general property tax levy
Several options are under consideration for Clay County’s general property tax levy, ranging from maintaining the current rate to further reductions.
Clay County commissioners recently discussed the levy after County Auditor Victor Hurlbert presented assessed valuation figures and several options for the general fund rate, but commissioners did not reach a consensus on which rate to pursue.
Clay County’s total adjusted assessed valuation increased 3% from about $7.48 billion in 2025 to $7.71 billion in 2026, according to county documents.
Because 2026 is not a reassessment year, Hurlbert said the increase instead reflects new construction, changes in personal property and changes in tax increment financing (TIF).
