Betty Cowsert

Betty Creek Cowsert, 86, of Excelsior Springs passed away Oct. 2, 2023, only a few weeks after the death of her husband of 68 years, Dwaine. Betty also was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Marie Creek. She is survived by her sister, Norma Edwards of Jennings, Okla.; brother, Larry Creek of Grandview; son, Gary Cowsert of Austin, Texas; daughter, Kathy Richards of Excelsior Springs; son, Dale Cowsert of Overland Park, Kan.; eight grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

After graduating from Excelsior Springs High School, class of 1955, Betty’s path led some years later to TWA, where she worked for more than 25 years.

Betty and Dwaine spent most of their married life in the Excelsior Springs area, with the exception of a few years in the Cameron/Winston area, followed by some time at the Lake of the Ozarks, where they retired and built a house before returning to Excelsior Springs. In their youth, Betty and Dwaine enjoyed being members of the Excelsior Springs Silver Spur Saddle Club and the Excelsior Springs Square Dance Club. In retirement, Betty also was fond of exploring antique shops and auction houses for unique finds.

A visitation will be held 1-2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at Bross and Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, with a graveside service immediately afterward at Hillcrest Cemetery.
