Christine Davila, 82, of Excelsior Springs passed away on Mother’s Day, May 14, 2023, at Liberty Hospital.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 26, at Greater Life Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, also at Greater Life Church, with graveside services at Hillcrest Cemetery in Excelsior Springs to follow.

All services are in the care of Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Excelsior Springs.

Mrs. Davila was born on Aug. 25, 1940, in Clarkia, Idaho, in a teepee while her family was camping. Christine’s actual birthdate is Aug. 25, 1939, but there was a mess up with her birth certificate and the birthdate they recognized as her “legal” date of birth was Aug. 25, 1940. This meant that she had two birth certificates and got to celebrate double every year!

Christine was part of the generation of Chief Looking Glass of the Nez Perce Tribe, located in Lapwai, Idaho. She loved bingo and traveling all over with her husband in their camper to see family, no matter the weather! Her favorite colors were red and pink.

Christine was a hairdresser for more than 40 years, which reflected her love for being around people. She was known for her famous frybread, which she made without a recipe!

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Irene Francis Hill; daughter, Andrea Nadine Shelton; parents, Johnathon Hines and Stella Wilson Hines; sisters, Marcella Marie Henry, Mardel Henry, Alice Faye McCury and Jeanette Broncheau; brothers, Arnold (Mugs) Henry, Leeroy Henry, Frank Johnson Hines, Johnnie Hines, Ben Hines, Manual (Tut) Broncheau and Alonzo Rodriguez; nieces, Jennifer Soria Rodriguez and Kathy Rickman; and nephews, Albert Henry (Wild Cat) and Ronald A. Henry.

Survivors include her husband, Luis R. Davila; daughters, Francine J. Hill of Kansas City and Rhonda M. Henry of Lapwai, Idaho; five grandchildren, Sarah M. Hill, Alexandrea R. Foster, Daniel A. Shelton, Jeanette Shelton Foster and Isaac L. Hill; three greatgrandchildren, Violet Nadine Davila (Sunshine), Aurora Dawn Foster (Peanut) and Oliver Samuel Shelton (Running Bear); brother, Bill (Cindy) Hines and family of California; sister, Gloria Rodriguez of California; nephew, Anthony Rodriguez of California; niece, Annette Rodriguez Carlsgaard of California; sister, Bonnie Johnson Hines; and great-nephew and nieces, Jared Rodriguez, Macy Carlsgaard, P.J. Carlsgaard of California, Jacque Bryson and Michael Morris.
