She was born Sept. 21, 1941, in Fresno, Calif., to James Bernard and Marjorie (Skelton) Perkins. Dortha married Buddy Joe Amos on Jan. 24, 1959, in Cassville. He preceded her in death on April 21, 2021. Also preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Ollie Mae Williamson and Irene Newell; and one great-grandson, Ollin Amos.

Soon after her birth, Dortha moved with her parents and siblings to Cassville, where she attended and graduated from Cassville High School. In 1963, they moved to Excelsior Springs, where they raised three children, Ricky Gene, Janett Lea and Allen Del.

She opened her own hair salon in Excelsior Springs and another salon in Richmond, and worked as a stylist for 40 years until her retirement. After retiring, they moved to the Amos Family Farm in 2004, a third-generation farm. They loved to travel and visited every state in the United States, as well as parts of Canada, British Columbia and the Bahamas.

Dortha enjoyed attending auctions, camping, sewing and gardening. She was an excellent cook, and a skilled oil and acrylic painter.

Dortha was a faithful Christian and loved the Lord. She was a member of Gunter Methodist Church and a good servant to others. According to Dortha, “I am so thankful to the Lord for my salvation at the age of 32. I am free indeed and looking forward to Home.”
