Ernest Smith, 88, Excelsior Springs, passed away May 19, 2023. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 26, at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs. Visitation will be held 10-11 a.m. prior. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Excelsior Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting memorial contributions to the Good Samaritan Center, Excelsior Springs. Ernie always suggested to donate to the Good Samaritan in lieu of his birthday present yearly. We know he’s smiling down, knowing we are asking for donations as a memorial contribution.

Ernest was born June 3, 1934, to Theodore and Anna Smith in Plattsburg. He graduated from Bartlett High School in St. Joseph.

Ernest served on the board at the Good Samaritan Center, several local committees and plenty of public service projects.

Ernest worked for the Missouri Power and Light Co. for almost 30 years. Anyone knowing him knew his passion for FAMILY, friends, golf (four holes-in-one), the Kansas City Royals, the Kansas City Chiefs and Mizzou!

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Smith.

He is survived by his son, Anthony Smith; daughter- in-law, Jenni Smith; daughter, Sheila Bunyan; and grandchildren, Michael Smith, Shayla Hooks, Shaun Bunyan, Daniel Smith, Cedrick Bunyan, McKenna Henry and Kennedy Henry. He also had 10 greatgrandchildren; one brother, Aaron Smith; three sisters, Lauretta Majors, Kathy Rodriquez and Gerald Jackson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins!
