June 22, 1940-Aug. 20, 2024 Ernie L. Warren, 84, of Holt passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, Aug. 20, 2024.

Born June 22, 1940, to David Burns and Jewell Leota (Stoops) Warren in Kearney, he grew up in Kearney and Excelsior Springs, and attended Kearney schools.

On Dec. 9, 1968, Ernie married the love of his life, Verba Lee Pratt, in Nowata, Okla. Their union was one of deep love and companionship, lasting 55-plus years.

Ernie dedicated 32 years as a truck driver to Farmland Industries and Cenex Harvest States.

A man of faith, Ernie was a devoted member of Old Union Church in rural Lawson, where he served as a trustee and contributed his time and talents in various ways. He was especially beloved by the congregation’s children, including Kim Malaj, who was inspired to author a book about him and his wife, titled “Ernie Meets Figgy.”

Ernie was known for his boundless energy and zest for life. He had a passion for woodworking and was a longtime participant at the Lathrop Antique Fairgrounds, where he shared his craftsmanship with others. His many hobbies included taking part in tractor cruises, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and camping. But above all, Ernie cherished his family and friends. He was always ready to lend a hand, and his generous spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, David Burns Warren and Jewell Leota Young; and siblings, David Warren, Juanita Filley and Evelyn Clifford.

Survivors include his beloved wife Verba of the home; and children, Terry Lee Warren (Andra) of Smithville, Kimberly Kelley (Charles) of Raleigh, N.C., and Nick Warren (Tracy) of Platte City. Other survivors include six grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye – Patricia Warren of Puyallup, Wash.; Stephanie Doyle of Lake in the Hills, Ill.; Samantha Eidson of Richmond; Jesse Warren of Puyallup; Zachary Murphy of Hubert, N.C.; and Sabrina Warren of Platte City.

Two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Ruby; a brother, Larry Warren of Excelsior Springs; and other extended family members also survive.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Old Union Church in the care of the funeral home.

A service celebrating Ernie’s life was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at Stith Funeral Home in Lathrop. The family received friends one hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial followed at Converse Cemetery, located southeast of Lathrop.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Stith Funeral Home in Lathrop. Phone: 816-740-4658. The online guestbook is at www.stithfamilyfunerals.com.
