Frances H. Rucker, 92, passed away Feb. 14, 2019.

Frances H. Rucker

She was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Oberlin, Kansas to Harry and Harriet Armstrong. After graduating from high school, she eventually moved to Warrensburg, Missouri where she met and married Charles Rucker. The family moved to Sedalia, where Frances, small in size, but mighty in will, managed three rambunctious boys while Charles worked in Kansas City for the Army Corps of Engineers. The family moved to Lee’s Summit in 1957. As her own children grew older, she provided a loving daycare home for many young children for over twenty years. Frances was a fantastic homemaker and cook. She enjoyed baking, and her homemade cookies and bread were prized by her children and grandchildren alike. Her other hobbies included crocheting and knitting. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit, where she had a heart for children’s ministries and taught Sunday School. Her dry wit remained with her to the end.

She is preceded in death by her husband Charles, her parents, and her sisters, Phyllis (Byron) McCartney, and Avis (Melvin) Beneda.

She is survived by her sons, Nolan Rucker of Denver, Colorado, Pete (Nancy) Rucker of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and Vinse (Merrie) Rucker of Olathe, Kansas; her grandchildren, Andrew (Annie) Rucker, Leslie (John) Parks, Berton Rucker, Cameron Rucker, and Audrie (Isaac) DuBois; and her great-grandchildren, William and Holly Rucker.

Visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2019, at the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit with services immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frances’ name to the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit.

Arrangements provided by Newcomer’s Floral Hills Funeral Home.
