The Excelsior Standard, April 5, 2024

James Leroy Covey, 77, of Excelsior Springs passed away March 24, 2024, at North Kansas City Hospital.

Visitation and services were held March 29 at Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Excelsior Springs. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs.

Mr. Covey was born March 23, 1947, in Albany. James never met a stranger and would talk to anyone. He loved to tell stories and had a great love for his family and animals.

He was a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, serving as an aviation mechanic. He spent the rest of his working career in construction doing various jobs. He also enjoyed farming on the family farm in his spare time.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Eugene Covey; mother, Margaret Elizabeth Covey; sisters, Alice Marie Covey and Beverly Downer; brother, Richard Covey; and nephew, Matthew Covey.

Survivors include his daughter, Tammy Branstietter; son, Christopher (Aimryal) Covey; grandchildren; Braydon Covey, Cebastine Branstietter, Ethan Branstietter, Madyson Harris and Christopher Heath Covey; and great-granddaughter, Caelan Branstietter.
