Jerry W. Barnett, 78, Independence, Missouri, passed away on May 3, 2020.

Jerry was born on Nov. 18, 1941, to Clarence and Margaret Barnett at Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Kansas City. He grew up in Bucyrus, Kansas. He served as a Marine from 1959-1964, was a Teamster for 30 years and worked for Yellow Freight Co. before retiring. He was an active volunteer for the Veterans Homecoming in Branson, Missouri. He and his wife, Linda, lived in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, for 40 years before moving to Independence in 2015. Jerry took great pride in doing things for others, loved to fish for trout at Roaring River State Park and was absolutely crazy about his grandchildren.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda; his daughter, Lora Hudson, Liberty; his granddaughter, Samantha Hudson (Gabe), Nashville, Tennessee; his grandson, Tanner Hudson (Emma) and great-granddaughter Sophia Hudson, Liberty; sister-in Law, Julia Barnett; sister-in-Law, Rebecca Hook (Ron); and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his grandparents, father, mother, sister and brother. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. South, Independence, MO 64055. The Rev. Randy Mitchell will officiate. The family will greet friends from 9:30 until service time Tuesday at the chapel. Donations may be made to the Veterans Community Project, 8900 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO 64131.
