Laurel Ann “Scott” Campbell

October 27, 1970 – January 4, 2019

Laurel Ann “Scott” Campbell, 48, of rural Richmond, Missouri, passed away Friday, January 4, 2019, in the comfort of her home, which she shared with her significant other, Thomas Hartman.

Laurel was born on October 27, 1970, to Tommie and Shirley Scott of Excelsior Springs, Missouri. She was the second child born to the Scotts, their first daughter.

Laurel spent her early years in Excelsior growing up with her two brothers, Tom and Tim, and later a sister, Lisa.  Laurel had a very adventurous personality.  She spent her time making friends with the neighbor children and chasing puppies, kittens, and other critters.  She loved running around the creek collecting pieces of nature, some of which her mother was not impressed with; mice, snakes, and crawdads, etc. She was blessed with a love for literature and enjoyed reading and writing throughout her life.

Laurel was the mother to four children: Curtis High, David High, Chelsea Campbell “Shelmadine” and Andrew Campbell.  She loved her children very much and shared with them her love of animals, especially the “strays.”  Laurel made friends with the people who needed her the most and made them family. She was caring and tender-hearted. She loved horses from a young age and finally fulfilled her dreams of owning some.  She loved to horseback ride and enjoyed the outdoors.

Laurel was preceded in death by her father, Tommie K. Scott, and her son, David K. High.

Survivors include her mother, Shirley Scott; her siblings: Tommie A. and Kristina Scott, Tim and Effie Scott and Lisa Shroyer.  Also, surviving are Thomas Hartman, Ronald Campbell, and her children Chelsea and husband Jesse, Curtis and wife Samantha and Andrew Campbell.

She leaves two grandsons: Bentley High, Noah Shelmadine; two granddaughters: Amber High, Ayla Hartman; and many nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main – P. O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date by the family in Crowley Cemetery near Rayville.  Please share your memories with Laurel by visiting
