Lawrence Howard “Larry” Fields, 93, of Independence passed away on April 21, 2021, at home in his sleep. Larry was born on May 2, 1927, to parents Leslie and Elvie Fields and raised in Independence.

Right after graduation, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard, where he proudly served for more than a year. After his discharge, Larry went on to college in Marshall, graduating and becoming a teacher in Excelsior Springs and in Kearney. In 1983, he retired to travel and antique along the way.

Larry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Billy Fields; one son, James (Lois) Fields; and his special niece, Ann Fields.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Alice Fields; brother, Mervin Fields; and both parents, Leslie and Elvie Fields.

Cremation is planned with no service at this time. Larry will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs.
