Lucille Duncan
Lucille Duncan, 93, of Lawson went home to be with the Lord Dec. 12, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. All services were to be held at Old Union Church on Highway C in Lawson. Visitation was scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15. The funeral was scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16. Lucille was born Oct. 6, 1932, to Charles and Virginia VanGundy.
She married Marvin E. Duncan on June 9, 1950, and was a preacher’s wife for 50-plus years. They raised three boys – Gary, Mike and Kenny.
She retired from the banking industry after 35 years. After Marvin’s retirement from preaching, they traveled as evangelists and enjoyed seeing the country as he continued his ministry. They continued their love for traveling and became “snow birds,” residing in Texas during the winter months. Once Marvin was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, they chose to spend the remainder of their time at home with family.
Lucille was lovingly known as “Nanny.” She helped raise all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She nurtured a love for adventure within them by taking them each on memorable trips throughout their childhoods, journeys that stretched from coast to coast.
Aside from family, she loved to spend time at the beach, attend gospel jamborees and spoil her family while always in search of a bargain. Her family could always look to her for support, guidance and unconditional love.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years; parents; baby brother, VanGundy; and grandmother.
She is survived by her three sons, Gary and Jackie Duncan of Licking, Mike and Sara Duncan of Alabama, and Kenny and Anita Duncan of Lawson.
She has seven granddaughters: Miranda Denmark (Scott), Holly Halbert (Chris), Sheila Kessler (Corey), Rachael Peak (David), Tammy Cespedes (Armando), Shannon Alter (Justin) and Erica Ritter (Scott).
She also has 15 great-grandchildren: Ashton, Gabriel, Elijah, Colt, Kenzie, Madi, Colby, Madeline, John, Brody, Preston, Quinton, Ethan, Colin and Ella. She has four great-great grandchildren as well – Ella, Sloan, Hudson and Shea.
