Melanie Avery

Melanie Deanne (Adams) Avery, 55, of Lawson passed away Feb. 23, 2024, from a heart attack, which resulted in a car accident. Melanie was born Nov. 21, 1968, in Kansas City to Franklin and Joyce Adams. She grew up in Excelsior Springs and married Mike Malott in 1990. They had three daughters. They later divorced.

In 2015, she married Geno Avery, who preceded her in death in 2020.

Melanie was a Christian and was baptized in the Baptist church. She was outgoing and never met a stranger. She remembered everyone’s names, no matter how long it had been since she had seen them.

Melanie loved being a grandmother. She was looking forward to the birth of her third grandchild in July and to the marriage of her youngest daughter in May.

Melanie will be greatly missed by her children, Monica (Austin) Gardner, Morgan (Nick) Clevenger and Molly Malott (Chris Jenkins); grandchildren, Hayden Marie Clevenger and Bennett Mason Gardner; brother, Michael Adams; parents, Frank and Joyce Adams; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services were scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, at the Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church in Excelsior Springs.

In lieu of flowers or contributions, just come and join us in a celebration of Melanie’s life. You could write us a note about how you got to know her – something for us to treasure.

Take the time and hug your loved ones and let them know you love them. They are your gift from God.
