Melvin James Harmon, 84, of Camden passed away Monday, June 10, 2024, at North Care Hospice House in North Kansas City.

Melvin was born Feb. 14, 1940, in North Kansas City, the son of Willis R. and Wilma Clastine (Malott) Harmon.

He was united in marriage to Donna L. King of Homer, Neb., in February 1972. She preceded him in death on Sept. 3, 2012.

He was then united in marriage to Shirley Dean Gardner of Henrietta on Sept. 26, 2014. She preceded him in death on Nov. 27, 2023.

Survivors include five daughters, Tammy (Jeff) Parker of Plattsmouth, Neb., Tracy Marin of Kansas City, Terrie Langford of Claycomo, Jamie Jones of Kansas City and Jennie O’Donnell of North Kansas City; and two stepdaughters, Patty (John) Conrick of Excelsior Springs and Dena (Ron) Bradley of Liberty. Many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Wynema Harmon of Richmond, also survive.

In addition to his parents and wives, Melvin was preceded in death by his grandson, Zachary Gertson; brother, Thomas Marlon “Tom” Harmon; and sister, Marsha McKay.

Melvin was raised and educated in the area of his birth and graduated from Liberty High School.

He worked for more than 30 years as a mechanic for TWA. Melvin’s hobbies included hunting, fishing and camping. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Melvin Harmon Memorial Fund. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Graveside services were scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, June 17, in White Chapel Cemetery, 6600 North Antioch Road, Gladstone, with Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond in charge of the arrangements.
