Pastor Robert “Brother Bob” Horton, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 28, 2021. Bob was born on Feb. 11, 1934, in Camden, Tenn., the son of Robert Lindell Horton and Vera Janet Pierce.  He grew up in a family with seven brothers and two sisters.

Bob, at the age of 19, asked Jesus to come into his heart to be his Lord and Savior.  Shortly after that he felt the call and dedicated his life to full time ministry to serve the Lord.  He enrolled into Hannibal-LaGrange College and while attending school he was called to serve as Pastor of Peno Baptist Church, Bowling Green, Mo. He later felt the Lord’s call and was led to Rock Falls Baptist Church, Orrick Mo., where he faithfully served as their beloved Pastor for over 35 years.

Brother Bob loved his church family dearly and compassionately. He always felt it was a privilege and a joy to pastor the flock. During that time, he also served as an intern missionary with trips to Africa, China, and Guatemala.  He came to love and care for those men and women he worked with in these areas. Brother Bob prayed fervently for all of them as well as our military service personnel and our country’s leaders.

Brother Bob was a jack of all trades and was always the first to come to the aid for others in need. For those who knew him, hunting and fishing was another hobby.   Bob had countless stories of good times that he shared with family and friends who shared their love, and depending on the day, their frustration with the sport. But greater than this passion in these activities, was his passion for reaching those who did not know his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  He was very committed on trying to help disciple all members to be able to walk and discern in their lives on how to serve the Lord.   Brother Bob mentored other pastors the word of God so that they might lead their flock to know God’s promises and truths.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Willis, James, Ray, Clement, and Donald Gene; one sister, Melissa; his son Robert; and grandson Zachary.

Brother Bob is survived by his wife of 69 years, Clara Horton; two sons, Don and Ailene Horton (Russ and Gina) and James and Janna Horton (Lindsay, Randy, Kayla and Treston); one daughter, Debbie and Matt Marrant (Matthew and Luke); and one daughter-in-law, Sue Horton (Gail, Janet and Erin).  He is also survived by 23 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at Rock Falls Baptist Church on Friday, July 2, 2021, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. with funeral service following.   Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Richmond, Mo.

Arrangements: Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, MO.
